SR. RELEASE AND CONFIGURATION ENGINEER FOSTER CITY, CA 6 MONTH CONTRACT, EXTENSION POSSIBLE

As a member of the Release Engineering team in Foster City, the Sr. Release Engineer will be ensuring reproducibility, auditability and traceability of all deliverables. This team maintains the systems and owns related processes to ensure high quality of delivery standards. The Sr. Release and Configuration Management Engineer will handle the daily responsibilities supporting the release needs of Agile scrum teams. These tasks include configuration identification, change management, build and release management, version control, and source code auditing/reporting, environment support and troubleshooting. The Sr. Release Engineer will establish working relationships with one or more teams, providing assistance through the development cycle for any required changes to the build/release/version-control processes required to get a product released into test and production environments.

Our client is looking for someone with 4 out of the 6 things listed here:
1. Experience with Java web environments (WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat)
2. Experience with a Scripting language (Perl, Python, bash)
3. Build and troubleshoot build issues in Java applications
4. Advanced knowledge with one or more build management tools (Anthill, BuildForge, CruiseControl, Bamboo, Hudson, etc.)
5. Exposure to CHEF (preferable) and Puppet
6. Experience with structured build files/tools (ant, Maven). Cross-functional team coordination and communications skills are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Handle the daily responsibilities of supporting the build and release needs of Agile scrum teams.
- Assist in scheduling and implementing changes to the build/release/version-control processes required to enforce and apply build and release engineering best practices
- Provide guidance to cross-team and team members in release best practices and procedures
- Support all pre-production, managed environments for Middleware services and applications
- Work with cross functional, geographically distributed teams to provide 24X7 deployment support across multiple V.me non-production environments
- Deploy code and other proactive maintenance activities to keep the services up and running
- Own specific deployment problems and provide active coordination between various groups including internal and external vendor support groups in resolving a specific problem
- Work with Security, Operations, Development Operations, and other teams to understand changes to the existing production environment on an ongoing basis and for environment support
- Preserve and maintain service availability, performance, integrity, capacity and security
- Participate and determine root cause for service failure and support escalation
- Provide appropriate feedback to leads about the progress and timeline related to specific deployment problem
- Maintain and suggest improvements to the simple deployment scripts and tools
- Participate in the decision making of success or failure of applications systems to be deployed in production
- Champion and Evangelize the vision for the CM and Release Strategy
- Update documentation that communicates standards and best practices of the release engineering team
- Implement metrics, Success Factors and Key Performance Indicators for the process and the team

REQUIREMENTS:

- 6+ years of experience in release and configuration management roles
- Build and troubleshoot build issues in Java applications
- Exposure to CHEF (preferable) and Puppet
- Linux and Shell Scripting and Automation
- Advance knowledge with one or more build management tools (Anthill, BuildForge, CruiseControl, Bamboo, Hudson, etc.)
- Expert knowledge of CM concepts (codelines, branching, merging, integration, versioning, etc.)
- Experience with structured build files/tools (ant, Maven)
- Experience with a Scripting language (Perl, Python, bash)
- Advanced knowledge and experience with Linux and UNIX
- Should have working experience with monitoring tools like OPPNET and/or SPLUNK, or any other monitoring tools/processes
- Experience in working with Oracle and/or MySQL DBs
- Experience with Java web environments (WebSphere, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat)
- Experience with multiple software version control systems (GIT, Subversion, ClearCase, Perforce, etc.)
- Experience with Change Management tools (Jira, ClearQuest, etc.)
- Good attention to detail, someone who takes ownership and pride in all work
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with and manage distributed teams
- Passion for quality in CM processes
- Thrives in a fast paced environment with continuously changing priorities
- Ability to move forward given ambiguous conditions
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Results driven; does what it takes to get the job done and naturally goes the extra mile
- Ability to manage multiple deployments simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision
- Complete understanding of the software development life cycle
- Experience with agile software development methodologies (scrum, XP, etc.)
- Occasional off hours work supporting overseas team may be required
