Our workload for developers, conservation bodies and government agencies continues to expand and with strong further growth already secured for 2014 and beyond, we are looking to appoint a permanent Senior/ Principal level habitats ecologist to support our existing highly experienced team. JOB TITLE: SENIOR/PRINCIPAL ECOLOGIST - SPECIALISING IN HABITATS
LOCATION: GLASGOW/EDINBURGH (POTENTIALLY INVERNESS)
SALARY: COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE
CLOSING DATE: 31.01.2014
Typical activities will include:
• Phase 1, NVC, phase 2 protected species surveys across a variety of habitats (specialising in upland habitat communities)
• Contributing to the technical delivery of our wide range of renewable and other projects
• Writing/contributing to Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulation Appraisals
• Providing high quality technical support to clients and colleagues across various UK offices
• Contributing to the future growth and strategy of the Scottish Ecology Team in areas such as peatland management, forestry, habitat management, etc
We are keen to hear from all motivated and enthusiastic ecologists with Scottish experience and our current focus is on the following technical capabilities:
• A thorough understanding of terrestrial ecology and particularly upland habitat communities
• Knowledge of legislation and policy in relation to the conservation of ecological interests and designated sites across Scotland and Northern England
• Technical writing skills, with experience of writing EIAs and preferably HRAs for the onshore renewables industry
• Statistical analysis skills, with a knowledge and ability to interpret and present data appropriately
• Experience of other sectors, away from wind renewables, would be advantageous
• A degree in a relevant subject and a post-graduate qualification or equivalent experience
As well as these technical capabilities and expertise, you will also need:
• Experience of project management
• Have strong communications skills; confident and articulate in all communications i.e. face-to-face, telephone and written communications
• To be a good team worker, reliable and able to rapidly establish a high degree of trust and rapport with all clients and stakeholders
• Be self-motivated, self disciplined with the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Have good attention to detail; maintaining and enhancing our high standards of delivery, quality and accuracy
• Be highly computer literate and experienced with standard MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Comfortable working on your own in a safe manner, often in remote locations using our Lone Working Procedures
• A full driving licence
