Senior Portal Design Engineer

We require a Senior Portal Design Engineer for 5 month contract based in Dublin.

Technical Requirements

Development of designs and configurations based on Strategies, Architectures and High Level Designs defined by company CTO Organisation

Development of migration plans to migrate customers, traffic and services from older platforms to replacement platforms

To prepare detailed specifications, estimates, designs, record structures, triggers, rules, interfaces, resilience and contingency plans, including externally sourced solutions.

To develop relevant scripts, configurations, data-build, quality standards and acceptance criteria, to support required solutions

Capacity management, including hardware, memory and processor capacity

Hardware & Software Release management and upgrades

To design solutions ensuring the highest possible availability achievable within the budget.

To ensure that the overall solution design meets best telecommunications technology practices, including the specification of non-functional requirements. eg operational performance.

Project

To plan and manage the delivery of small or sub- projects in line with company standard project management guidelines

To ensure agreement of the scope of requirements with all stakeholders

To complete the design, lab testing and manage the execution of production tests in accordance with the test strategy

To obtain vendor documentation and/or generate additional documentation required for operational maintenance.

The provision of detailed, timely and accurate progress reports

ROLE SPECIFIC TECHNICAL SKILLS

- Experience of leading on technical deliverables within a project setting.
- Experience in the design and development of scalable Consumer/Business Web Applications
- Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle, in particular using Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
- Excellent documentation skills, particularly:
- Technical Documentation
- Datamodelling
- Software/Hardware Architecture
- Visio/PowerPoint etc
- Design, build and test network/application components.
- Ensuring delivery targets are met on time, to budget, and meet applicable quality criteria.
- Excellent working knowledge of a selection of these technologies and applications including:
- Internet technologies (HTTP, DNS etc)
- Web Applications
- J2EE, PHP
- Web Services (SOAP, REST)
- Data Interchange Formats (XML,JSON)
- Tomcat/JBOSS ESB
- Hudson, Jenkins, other continuous integration tools
- SQL Server, LDAP, NoSQL Solutions
- Shell, Perl & Python Scripting
- Single Sign-On (SAML, OpenID)
- Web Application Security Standards (OWASP etc)
- Good operational knowledge of network infrastructure, Operating Systems (Windows, Red Hat, Solaris), Virtualisation (VMWare ESX), Databases (SQL Server,MySQL, NoSQL solutions) and related applications.
- Familiarity with existing web technologies and future trends
- Good knowledge of relevant protocols and standards (TOGAF, W3C etc)
