Senior Oracle Developer

Our client is looking for an Oracle Developer to join their team on a contract basis. The initial term is 6 months, but the position is projected to last 12months +. Our client is open to telecommuting for the right candidate for out of state candidates.

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Software Engineer is an expert in Forms and Reports, PL/SQL, database design/data modelling, working knowledge of Pervasive (or another ETL tool), Linux/Unix Scripting, ApEx, and the entire software development life cycle. Responsible for designing and developing new applications or major enhancements and fixes to existing applications. Acts as a technical expert, addressing problems of system integration, compatibility, and data integrity. Responsible for analysing and troubleshooting complex issues and implementing solutions. Provides recommendations for application and system improvements. Has a strong software development knowledge using a variety of Oracle technologies including PL/SQL, Forms, Reports, and Apex. Works with peers and Senior Business Analyst to create project specifications and determine implementation strategy and details. Exposure to a variety of project methodologies including Scrum, Agile, Waterfall and ad-hoc methods. He/she reports directly to the Applications Architect or Manager, Applications Architect.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supports and/or installs software applications/operating systems.
2. Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Creates technical specifications and test plans.
3. Analyzes user requirements. Makes recommendations to ensure the final design exceeds customer expectations; is functional and flexible.
4. Researches, designs and writes new software programs. Ensures department policies and standards are followed.
5. Evaluates the software and systems that make computers and hardware work.
6. Develops existing programs by analysing and identifying areas for modification.
7. Tests new programs and fault finding.
8. Integrates existing software products and gest incompatible platforms to work together.
9. Investigates new technologies.
10. Works with computer coding languages.
11. Writes operational documentation with technical authors. Documentation is clear, concise, and complete.
12. Maintains systems by monitoring and correcting software defects.
13. Works closely with other staff, such as project managers, developers, and business analysts.
14. Consults clients/colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems and asks questions to obtain information, clarify details and implement information.
15. Ability to scrutinize applications to ensure they adhere to security standards.
16. Willingness to guide and willingness to learn.
17. Designs, reviews, analyzes, develops, implements and maintains complex software applications.
18. Works closely with Senior Business Analyst to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs.
19. Maintains current applications which include, but are not limited to, bug fixes, feature enhancements and performance tuning.
20. Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions.
21. Works with team to create detailed project specifications, requirements and estimates.
22. Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance.
23. Documents validation of design decisions.
24. Develops coding standards and adheres to best practices and security guidelines.
25. Ability to work beyond regular work hours when required.
26. Performs other duties as assigned.

28. Researches, implements and refines new and current processes for software development.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. College degree in computer science or software engineering and 5 - 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area is preferred.
2. Knowledge of the major computer languages and tools including but not limited to PL/SQL, ApEx, Oracle Forms and Reports, ETL (Pervasive), Reporting (BI Publisher), JAVA, XML, and HIPAA file formats.
3. Experience with software version control systems such as QVCS, PVCS, Source Safe.
4. Experience in writing test scripts/scenarios including regression testing.
5. Demonstrated experience in re-engineering Legacy systems.
6. Ability to quickly, accurately, and confidently research and resolve production issues by seeking out knowledge resources or by reviewing existing code/processes.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
8. Effective communication skills and confidence to make calls directly to clients and/or participate in multi-organization conference calls.
9. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
10. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
11. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
12. Likes building and troubleshooting.
13. Knowledge of PBM a plus.
