DESCRIPTION:

Flint are seeking a Senior Optical Network Engineer - Cisco ONS Platform for a 4 to 6 month assignment in Dublin, Ireland

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Optical Network Engineer will provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise on the deployed Cisco ONS products.

The successful candidate will work will include network design, planning, and implementation as well as proposal support, team leadership, and product development.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Complete integration testing with other networking components, document designs, and make adjustments based on changing requirements.
- Review requirements and specifications developed by others and render comment and recommendations as part of a formal consultant peer review process.
- Work on a diverse team to design medium to large networks which encompass many component layers.
- Serve as a technical expert for team members to reference, and as a resource for customers in the design of complex solutions.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new tools and technologies to system engineering staff.
- Work closely with Transport Design Engineering during network assessment, capacity planning, network Design test and trial phase.
- Investigate Root cause of outages or any service impacting events. Work out actions to prevent future incidents
- Implement and tests solutions based on project scope and design/engineering specifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of directly related overall network engineering experience. Additional years of experience may be accepted in place of a degree.
- Demonstrated strong experience in designing large network solutions with WAN technologies.
- Working knowledge of VLANs, VRFs, OLTs, ONTs, splitters, and fiber optic characteristics.
- Recent experience in the design, integration, and implementation of large networks.
- Proficient in creating a detailed design of networking components or the integration and modification of a design into an existing environment.
- Proficient with current network technologies (CISCO ONS Platform) and standards to include IEEE, ITU, EIA/TIA, and related communications standards.
- Background supervising other network engineers and providing expert technical support on network installation projects.

- 1G,2.5G, 10G wavelength services
- Long Haul transport
- Passive DWDM
- Ethernet Transport/Ethernet over SONET/Packet Transport
- DSLAM

Experience

- 5+ years of experience required in related field (ie Transport Operations, Transport Design Engineering.); 3+ years of experience required if candidate possesses a related advanced degree.
- College Degree and 2-4 years' experience in telecommunications/IT/IS/Computer related industry or 6 or more years equivalent
- CCNA/CCNP a plus
- Experience working in Long Haul DWDM Optical Transmission environment and DWDM network management systems including (ie Cisco ONS 15454).
- Experience with communications test sets and methodologies, including bit error rate testing, protocol analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and OTDR.
- Experience in telecommunications industry desired.
- Fluency in the Microsoft Office tools suite, particularly MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS Word. Experience with Visio, MS Access and MS Project a plus.
