SUNY Orange was founded in 1950 as the first county-sponsored community college in the State University of New York system.

SUNY Orange was the first two-year college in the nation to offer the associate degree nursing program and studies in electron microscopy; and in 1982, the college was the first community college to plan and co-sponsor with local chambers of commerce a business institute.

Job Description:

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

The Senior Network Specialist reports to the Director of Information Services and Network Infrastructure of the SUNY Orange ITS Department, is the leader of the Network Infrastructure (NI) group and is responsible for managing various technology projects.

The NI group is responsible for the administration, maintenance and security of the College's over 7000 network ports supported by a variety of hardware including Brocade Router/edge Switches; CISCO ASA Firewalls; Packeteer packet shapers; Servers running on Linux and Windows. The network services group uses a variety of commercial and open source software to support its activities.

Requirements:

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or comparable field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Minimum 5 years related Network Management experience.

Experience in the systems administration of Novell, MS Windows and Linux Servers in a production environment. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:

Bachelor's degree; Experience with brocade/Cisco network equipment; Brocade load balancer; Novell SSO; Experience with CISCO ASA Firewall; Hands-on experience in Novell, Linux and Windows administration. Experience in Windows Shell Scripting for automation, Packeteer bandwidth shaping appliance, network wiring (CAT5x/CAT6) and network telecommunications (wiring closets, LAN, WAN and wireless), and wireless AP. Ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationship with supervising personnel, co-workers, all college employees and the public. Project management experience and the ability to manage multiple projects. Must be able to travel between the college's two campuses and other sites.

Additional Information: Position is a 12 month position located on our Middletown Campus
