Data Networking is crucial to the effective operation of STFC. Connected resiliently at 40Gbits/s into JANET (the academic network) the network at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is now transferring over 3 Petabytes of data a month on and off site.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to lead on Network Performance and to work as part of the busy Networks and Commnuications Group.

The duties involved include:

- Leading the Network Performance function within STFC, across both RAL and DL, working closely with the Networks and Communications Service Delivery function.
- Jointly responsible for the day-to-day delivery of Networking and Communications Services, dealing with new installation activities and/or resolving reported service problems with particular emphasis on network performance.
- Accountable for network design proposals and studies in the area of specialism and more broadly across the full range of supported services.

ABOUT YOU

You will have significant relevant experience and training and will work with the business areas of STFC to improve network performance.

YOU WILL:

- Hold a relevant Degree or have equivalent experience
- Have deep knowledge of networks and their construction with particular focus on network performance & deep knowledge of the wiring infrastructure of modern networks
- Have a substantial understanding of IP routing and the configuration of Routers
- Have the ability to gather and assimilate information with strong problem solving skills
