Senior Medical Officer

I have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Medial Officer to oversee a team of GP's conducting medical examinations:

• Overseeing a team of 14 GP's who are carrying out medical examinations of potential recruits

• Based in the midlands

• 6 month contact (starting ASAP)

• Excellent rates of pay

The SMO is responsible for the pre employment screening of applicants to the British Army (Regular and Reserve) and for the MPGS at ADSC Lichfield. The SMO will support a number of doctors employed on a sessional basis to undertake this work giving advice on decisions on fitness to enlist / further investigation of cases as required. In addition to training in local procedures provided by the ADSC OC, the locum SMO will undertake specific training provide by HQ ARTD. SO1 Occ Med HQ ARTD will support the SMO in all aspects of casework / application of policy.

The work involves:

Performance and oversight of screening of British Army Health Questionnaires (RG8) and physical examination / assessment of recruits to ensure medical fitness for pre employment physical testing, military training and military Service in accordance with published policy. The SMO will:

• have experience of occupational medicine and understand the principles of pre employment screening
• understand the physical demands and particular requirements of military service relevant to pre employment screening
• screen RG8s and conduct physical examinations as and when appropriate to decide on fitness for enlistment
• understand and be familiar with all relevant policies to enable the same
• support and advise a number of sessional doctors in performance of the same
• consider appeals against decisions on fitness to enlist in the first instance
