SR. MAINFRAME SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER

Columbia, SC

1 YEAR+ CONTRACT

EDUCATION/EQUIVALENCY: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, IS, or job related degree or 4 years of combined education and work experience or a total of 10 years of related work experience

CANDIDATE TECHNICAL BACKGROUND:

- Overall IT experience with some varied systems programming (6 years, Required)
- Working knowledge of VTAM installation/customization (including experience with APPN and Enterprise Extender - 5 years, Required)
- TCPIP, SMPE, CA-TPX, NetView, Omegamon for Mainframe Networks, Connect:Direct (NDM), and TIBCO-MFT (Cyberfusion) on z/OS. (Required)
- Experience with Tivoli Enterprise Portal including creating and modifying workspaces and situations is a plus.
- Working knowledge of SAS and SMF records. (Required)
- Advanced Networking Concepts (TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, Network Security, Enterprise Extender, APPN) (Required)
- Experience and ability to add, remove, modify, and change VTAM and TCPIP communications settings on z/OS. (Required)
- Experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting NetView, Connect:Direct (NDM) on z/OS, and TPX. (Required)

DAILY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide support to other IS areas and customers where applicable for Mainframe z/OS networking.
- Perform Traces as requested.
- Document Mainframe network infrastructure by utilizing Microsoft Office products including Visio.
- Plan/participate in disaster recovery exercises and potential disaster events.
- Participate in on-call rotation within Mainframe networking team.
- Install/customize/support Mainframe communications software that includes but not limited to the following:
- z/OS Communications Server SNA including VTAM/APPN/Enterprise Extender
- z/OS Communications Server TCP/IP including TN3270 and FTP
- Connect:Direct on z/OS and distributed operating systems including Linux, AIX, and Windows
- NetView and Omegamon for Mainframe Networks
- TIBCO MFT Platform Server z/OS and zLinux operating systems
- CA TPX

SYSTEMS:

- Corporate and EDC Mainframe z/OS systems.
- Non-host systems on Windows, Linux, zLinux, and AIX systems running IBM Sterling Connect:Direct, Control Center, File Gateway, and Secure Proxy.
- Non-host systems on zLinux running TIBCO MFT Platform Server.

WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS:

Candidate will be working in a fast-paced systems support environment which will require some shift, holiday, and/or weekend work hours. Candidate will be required to carry an on-call cell phone on a team rotation and respond in a timely manner when contacted.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

- (40%) Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution. Identify issues that the vendor is responsible for and refer those issues appropriately.
- (35%) Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software. Schedule system downtime in a way that minimizes user impact.
- (10%) Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems, and evaluate feasibility to determine if/how to handle the request while maintaining an adequate/appropriate overall systems infrastructure. To determine if requested changes are possible, review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
- (10%) Cross train in all areas of systems programming in order to efficiently perform on-call rotation.
- (5%) Provide technical and disaster recovery support for systems software.
