Senior Legal Counsel

Our client, a blue chip company based in York, require Senior Legal Counsel to join their Legal team.

Purpose:
*To act as senior legal adviser, providing first class legal service including advice to UK Life businesses on all contractual and commercial issues.
*To provide oversight and advice on key legislative and common law developments affecting the UK Life business.
*To be the lead lawyer in negotiating commercial contracts and proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks in accordance with the Group Legal & Company Secretarial Standard.
*To actively manage the instruction of external lawyers in accordance with the Supplier Protocol, with a view to minimising expenditure on external suppliers.

You must have:

Qualifications:
*Graduate or equivalent.
*A lawyer entitled to practice as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive in the UK or a relevant jurisdiction.

Experience:
*Senior lawyer with extensive post qualifying experience.
*Experience of dealing at senior management level.
*Proven ability to lead projects, negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers.

Skills/Knowledge:
*Strong technical knowledge of contract law, company law, insurance law and general commercial law areas of law .
*Strong contract drafting skills, written communication and problem solving skills.
*Keen understanding of the needs of the business and our individual customers.
*Capable of working to tight timescales.
*Well organised with the ability to prioritise.
