Senior Legal Counsel - Financial Service - York - 2 months

On behalf of my financial services client based in York I am looking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel for a period of 2 months.
*High profile position which manages service delivery and diverse client relationships and relationships with other lawyers in UK & I.

As a Senior Legal Adviser, it is your role to provide first class legal service including advice to UK Life businesses on all contractual and commercial issues.
*To provide oversight and advice on key legislative and common law developments affecting the UK Life business.
*To be the lead lawyer in negotiating commercial contracts and proactively monitoring and mitigating legal risks in accordance with the Group Legal & Company Secretarial Standard.
*To actively manage the instruction of external lawyers in accordance with the Supplier Protocol, with a view to minimising expenditure on external suppliers.
*To proactively contribute to the sharing of expertise and resource across the legal function so as to make best use of internal resource, notwithstanding ownership and location of that resource.
*To develop other lawyers in the legal areas for which the holder is lead lawyer as required and ensure that they provide a first class legal service.
*Although based in York there will be a requirement for travel to other sites across the UK.

Skills, knowledge and experience:
*Strong technical knowledge of contract law, company law, insurance law and general commercial law areas of law.
*Strong contract drafting skills, written communication and problem solving skills.
*Keen understanding of the needs of the business and our individual customers.
*Capable of working to tight timescales.
*Well organised with the ability to prioritise.
*Good knowledge of Group policies, practices and procedures on legal issues.
*Senior lawyer with extensive post qualifying experience.
*Experience of dealing at senior management level.
*Proven ability to lead projects, negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers.
