External Description:
We require a Senior J2EE Developer, for a key role in the design and development of an existing learning management service. This application allows Teachers and students manage their learning activities and view educational content.

This is a key development lead role requiring very strong technical and communications skills. The Senior Java/J2EE Developer will have responsibility for leading the technical implementation of new features and extensions to this application. They will lead a team of developers in an Agile Scrum and work with an onsite (Dublin based) team of Project Managers, Business Analysts, Quality Engineers and a product stakeholder.

This is a hand- on design & development role and requires a strong software development background. While actual coding tasks will not usually be part of the daily role close contact with the team's design and development will be required to ensure projects stay on track, design intention is followed and adjusted as needed and quality output is maintained.

The Senior Java/J2EE Developer position is a Team Lead role and reports directly to an Engineering Development Manager and is located in our Dublin office.

Requirements:

Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the development team through all phases of development from definition and design through implementation, debugging, testing and deployment to ensure all work is to the highest standards.
Take ownership for component design, development and maintenance. Responsible for code reviews and technical quality standards within the project team
Ensure automated unit testing is implemented to ensure a high quality deliverable into QA
Assist in defining structured practices especially in source code management, build and release management

Skills and Experience:
Essential:
Experienced Senior Developer with broad understanding of all the components of large consumer facing web applications.

Essential Skills:
* Ideal candidate will have 5 plus years Java/J2EE development experience
* A minimum of 1 years' experience in leading, mentoring and code reviewing for more Junior developers
* JUnit, Spring Frameworks, Hibernate, Web services, Oracle Stored Procs
* Requires a very strong level of interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
* J2EE architecture and design patterns
* Knowledge of Unit Testing
* Knowledge of Continuous Integration
* Practical knowledge of Source Control Management, specifically branching, tagging and merging of different code streams

Desirable Skills:
* Some exposure to Front End technologies like JQuery, Backbone or other JS frameworks and HTML5
* .NET development experience would be a big plus
* J2EE security (OAuth, ws-security, Spring Security, JAAS)
* LDAP
* Unix Scripting
* Selenium
* Cross browser development
* Mobile web development experience
* Experience of developing accessible sites
* Atlassion suite of tools, Bamboo, Clover, Fisheye, Confluence and JIRA
* Exposure to the educational software environment and familiarity with industry standards and specifications
* Experience of agile development processes an advantage
