Prestigious Research Institution is seeking a JAVA and C Developer to work in a distributed systems environment. This role will be a 6 month contract. Individual will be working on the Design, development and testing of new features as well as the distributed accounting solution, code modification and DB schema changes. Experience in troubleshooting, distributed systems on Linux, Data Analytics, solid JAVA, Python, Unix, Shell Scripting, web services, MySQL, Hibernate framework is all preferred.

BACKGROUND

We are seeking a contractor with Java and C development experience in distributed systems. The position provides contributions to the Distributed Accounting and Usage Analysis Solution (Gratia) and to the enabling of a NEES simulation solution with the NEESComm project wharehouse. The Gratia accounting system is used across the more than 100 sites on the Open Science Grid (OSG) as well as internally and across the distributed resources of the University of Nebraska computing facilities. Currently collecting over four million records per week to reflect the resource usage of millions of jobs, Gratia is considered the most comprehensive accounting system for distributed computing in the US. The system provides the means for recording contributions and showing to the OSG Consortium members, stakeholders, and funding agencies the throughput benefits provided by the distributed infrastructure.

We seek a self-driven independent contractor capable of understanding the existing system and extending it with new features needed to present and analyze the use of the resources, the queued work and the throughput of both individual system resources and the ensemble system in order to develop appropriate policies and better scheduling. The group is contributing to the NEES Bridge to the Future program in integrating support for earthquake engineering simulation with OSG resources and the NEES Project Warehouse.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualification Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in science with 3+ years of related working experience.
- Experience with development, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of highly distributed systems on Linux
- Understanding of and experience with data analytics and interpretation.
- Solid knowledge of Java, python and UNIX Shell Scripting, Web Services. Concrete knowledge of MySQL and familiarity with Hibernate framework
- Experience in building systems, such as ant, Maven, and rpm packaging.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with only general directions from a supervisor
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with Grid Middleware Systems, such as Condor or the Globus Toolkit, is a plus.
