Digital Newcastle - Digital by Choice
KANA - Shared Technology Platform change project

The City of Newcastle is at the forefront of Digital Change. Partners across the City - including the City Council, Universities, business community, and other public service providers are quickly recognising that Digital can be the key to unlocking economic growth and becoming a world class city - one that is safe, sustainable, cares for vulnerable people and encourages learning and achievement.

Effective use of digital services by citizens, businesses and the voluntary and community sector has the potential to transform the way our City works and transform people's lives: boost productivity, drive economic growth, provide jobs, connect individuals and revitalise the way services are delivered.

To enable this we need citizens, old and young and businesses, big and small, to have the right skills and access to modern and reliable technology. As a City we are gearing up to provide this, but we know that more can be done to join up provision and opportunities, and present a truly citywide vision. Our discussions with partners are ongoing and we will continue to use our influence to promote the broader 'Digital Newcastle' agenda.

Helping to meet this challenge is our 'Digital by Choice' vision to transform our external and internal ways of working, making online the preferred option for residents to interact with the Council, and for staff to work within the Council. Digital by Choice is a wide ranging programme of activity looking at designing new and innovative ways of delivering digital public services, digital infrastructure and tackling digital skills and inclusion challenges - again within the Council and in our communities.

A key Digital by Choice development is our KANA - Shared Technology Platform change project. We have a number of 2 year fixed term contracts to lead and deliver our new KANA platform. The roles will be part of a newly established multi-disciplinary team, working in an agile way alongside a wide range of business areas to deploy the KANA Shared Technology Platform to transform service delivery across the council. This will deliver efficiencies and cost savings; facilitate partner and supplier working; and improve the customer experience.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right people to be involved in a cross organisational transformational project. To be successful in these roles you will need to be able to demonstrate your enthusiasm for this change programme, as well as the professional credibility and interpersonal skills outlined in the separate person specifications.

These posts will be structurally located within the ICT divisions in Resources Directorate, and managed through the Digital Newcastle programme. This role will operate a matrix management approach.
