Senior Financial Accountant

I am looking to hire a Senior Financial Accountant for our public sector client

KEY TASKS AND DELIVERABLE

- As Senior Financial Accountant you will report into the Head of Financial Accounting and be based in one of our key sites.
- You will have responsibility for the preparation of the Agency's Annual Accounts which are externally published as part of the statutory Report & Accounts.
- In addition you will manage the completion of the interim and final audit with NAO.
- You will be responsible for managing balance sheet items and monthly reconciliations ensuring they accurately reflect the position of the Agency.
- You will also be responsible for assuring the quality, timeliness and continuous improvement of the spending controls process.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:

- Effective planning and preparation of the Agency's financial statements for the Annual Report compliant with government's IFRS based accounting policies
- Proactively manage the completion of the audit on time with NAO
- Prepare the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting to Client including accounts and notes covering whole of government consolidation accounting
- Manage balance sheet items, ensuring the Agency maintains positive cash flow, and make recommendation for continuous improvement
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes to Treasury VAT Guidance, ensuring compliance with VAT obligations and maintenance of supportive evidence
- Review and sign of the VAT and CIS returns
- Analyse complex accounting and tax issues and provide advice
- Ensure the quality and timeliness and continuous improvement of the spending controls process and compliance with transparency reporting
- Ensure compliance with Managing Public Money
- Ensure compliance with tax obligations for public sector appointees and report as appropriate
- Champion the finance profession in your role as Deputy Head of Profession for Finance
- Influence cross-finance decision making
- Adhoc tasks as required

QUALIFICATIONS

- CCAB qualification with post qualified relevant experience
- Working knowledge of IFRS
- Advanced Excel skills
