Senior Engineer - Materials

We have a fantastic opening for a Senior Engineer to play a vital part in the selection of materials for the Royal Navy's new global combat ship. This initial 6 month contract is paying up to £40 per hour Ltd/Umbrella and is based in Glasgow.

Materials used in the construction of the new combat ship must be the very best available, cost-effective, fit for purpose whilst conforming to all Legal and Regulatory requirements. They must be state of the art and offer performance, durability and value for money. These requirements are very demanding and require the very highest standards of materials selection practice and the successful candidate will require a good working knowledge of Materials Science and Materials Engineering principles.

The ideal candidate will:

*Utilise their knowledge of Materials Science and Engineering to select the suitable materials for a very wide variety of applications in the combat ship build
*Have working knowledge of complex legislation such as, REACH, RoHS and HSC Regulations
*Have a real eye for detail, this work requires patience and the ability to assimilate large volumes of technical information for numerous sources
*Have good reporting and presentation skills
*Be confident in communicating with suppliers, contractors and other project staff

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in a materials engineering science role with significant materials selection and/or materials management experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, ideally gained in a marine MoD design development context. However, candidates with a materials background that do not formally match these requirements but are genuinely keen to develop a career in materials are encouraged to apply
