Senior Engineer

SENIOR ENGINEER - SEATS, SCANTLINGS AND SHIPBUILDING.

A Senior Engineer with Seats, Scantlings and Shipbuilding experience is required to work on a six month contract with the possibility of extension for our Defence client based in Glasgow.

This is a 6 month contract with a leading UK defence business.

OVERVIEW OF THE SENIOR ENGINEER CONTRACT ROLE.

The Senior Engineer will support junior engineers and make engineering decisions within their own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority and be familiar with more than one aspect of the life cycle.

They'll also have the ability to carry out complex technical analyses and investigations and prepare complex specifications and deliver packages of work as part of cross functional projects/investigations ensuring requirements are delivered according to plan. Liaise with customers and support the identification of future business opportunities. Have a good awareness of their own business strategy and legal regulatory obligations.

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED FOR THE SENIOR ENGINEER.

- Able to perform robust analysis using recognised analytical tools and to make sound judgements based on experience.
- Has sufficient breadth of knowledge of warship design and the sound judgement needed to be able make correct trade-off decisions
- Knowledge and competence in ship structural design particularly the design of seats for major equipment.
- Understanding of beam and plate bending and deflection theories and how to use/apply standard cases of such.
- Understanding of shock loadings.
- Capable of producing accurate design drawings and general structural calculations.
- Ability to assess and check structural calculations. Experience of MathCad to generate calculations
- Awareness of shipyard production and fabrication processes and issues with respect to structural design and analysis.
- Awareness of the use of Classification Society rules and processes, preferably Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules.
- Awareness of vibration control

The role is based in Glasgow - Commutable from Kilmarnock, Paisley, Greenock, Stirling and Falkirk with excellent access from Edinburgh.
