Senior Design Engineer

Our client is a leading telecommunications company. They are currently looking to hire a Senior Portal Design Engineer for an initial 5 month contract role in Dublin, Ireland

Job/Opportunity
The Design of Group Technology networks, platforms and solutions. This includes specification, RFPs to vendors, evaluation of vendor responses, migration plans, configuration data-build, capacity management and 3rd level design support throughout life cycle.
The Portal Design Team are responsible for the platform and software architecture of both the client's Internet facing consumer estate and internal content management systems.

Skills/Experience
Senior Design Engineer (Implementation and Practice)
* Interfacing with internal customers on translation of business requirements to technical requirements.
* Managing day to day platform/service design
* Involvement in tenders and significant projects
* Developing own experience and knowledge base

Accountabilities
Technical
* Development of designs and configurations based on Strategies, Architectures and High Level Designs defined by the client's CTO Organisation
* Development of migration plans to migrate customers, traffic and services from older platforms to replacement platforms
* To prepare detailed specifications, estimates, designs, record structures, triggers, rules, interfaces, resilience and contingency plans, including externally sourced solutions.
* To develop relevant scripts, configurations, data-build, quality standards and acceptance criteria, to support required solutions
* Capacity management, including hardware, memory and processor capacity
* Hardware & Software Release management and upgrades
* To design solutions ensuring the highest possible availability achievable within the budget.
* To ensure that the overall solution design meets best telecommunications technology practices, including the specification of non-functional requirements. eg operational performance.
Project
* To plan and manage the delivery of small or sub- projects in line with the client's standard project management guidelines
* To ensure agreement of the scope of requirements with all stakeholders
* To complete the design, lab testing and manage the execution of production tests in accordance with the test strategy
* To obtain vendor documentation and/or generate additional documentation required for operational maintenance.
* The provision of detailed, timely and accurate progress reports

Role specific technical skills
* Experience of leading on technical deliverables within a project setting.
* Experience in the design and development of scalable Consumer/Business Web Applications
* Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle, in particular using Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
* Excellent documentation skills, particularly:
o Technical Documentation
o Datamodelling
o Software/Hardware Architecture
o Visio/PowerPoint etc
* Design, build and test network/application components.
* Ensuring delivery targets are met on time, to budget, and meet applicable quality criteria.
* Excellent working knowledge of a selection of these technologies and applications including:
o Internet technologies (HTTP, DNS etc)
o Web Applications
o J2EE, PHP
o Web Services (SOAP, REST)
o Data Interchange Formats (XML,JSON)
o Tomcat/JBOSS ESB
o Hudson, Jenkins, other continuous integration tools
