SENIOR CONTENT EDITOR

Brook Street is currently working on behalf of our Global IT client to recruit a Senior Content Editor. This is a contract role running until June 2015 based in London.

ROLE PURPOSE

- Securing exclusives for Cars through effective networking with relevant names in the motor industry.
- Growing our presence and engagement on social media.
- Be flexible and available to attend and cover live events outside of working hours, around the UK and the globe, and attend key industry launches and events.
- Ensure we are ahead of our competitors in terms of timely, original content, and beating rivals on breaking news.
- Produce original video content, including presenting and interviewing on camera.
- Participate in occasional weekend and out-of-hours rota, which may include early starts.
- Work with the Managing Editor and Content Editor to deliver Best of Now content in motoring news, features and reviews.
- Develop a strong and distinct tone of voice in these areas.
- Run a thriving bank of freelance and agency staff - commission, liaise, edit their work
- Assist the Managing Editor and Content Editor in taking the Cars channel to new levels of storytelling - and help us hit all KPIs and targets.
- Liaise with the Managing Editor, Content Editor and other editors on a daily basis to ensure motoring news is represented on the homepage.
- Increase engagement across Cars' social platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
- Assist in channel partnerships such as Auto Trader, including monitoring statistics and helping to evolve the partnership.
- Show initiative and willingness to go the extra mile to gain access to must-have content, by building strong industry relationships.
- Assist the Managing Editor and Content Editor in developing and experimenting with new strands and formats of content - such as quizzes and live blogs. Be full of editorial ideas.
- Monitor stories online and react quickly with your own tone and angle.
- Work closely with automotive PRs to secure the best stories to make Cars stand out from the crowd.
- Attend industry events to promote Cars and source stories.

KEY SUCCESS CRITERIA

- Creation of compelling original content and ideas to make MSN Cars stand out.
- Ensuring channels hit Page View (PV) and Unique User (UU) targets.
- Beat rivals on breaking news and reviews.
- Build industry relationships to extend our access to key cars, personnel and celebrities.
- Increase user engagement through close monitoring of unique users, dwell time, social targets etc
- Increase traffic to mobile, slate devices and Bing.
- Developing new sponsorship opportunities.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

- Proven experience of planning, writing and publishing motoring stories for a large online audience.
- Fantastic list of existing contacts.
- Proven experience in interviewing experts - in person, on camera, or on the telephone.
- You will have your finger on the pulse of the motoring scene - and will be adept at second-guessing what will be popular with users.
- You understand what makes a topical, news-worthy feature and what inspires the audience.
- Must be a lover of all things social media, and be ready to respond quickly and efficiently to news that breaks through this medium.
- Must have a close eye on competitor sites and understand strengths and weaknesses of other rivals to position own unique content.
- Must have a proven track record in spotting great pictures and know how to sell them with an original angle.
- Must write stop-you-in-your-tracks headlines and copy and be able to crop and manipulate images to a high standard using photo-editing software
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to operate under pressure and change priorities through the day as the news agenda move on.

As a Brook Street contractor you will be entitled to 25 days holiday per annum, 8 days paid Bank Holidays, discounted gym membership, use of the onsite health facility, access to online learning and training, free parking and an excellent subsidised restaurant. In addition, subject to qualification criteria, you will have the potential opportunity to earn bonus.

Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum
