SR. COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST PORTLAND, OR 6 MONTH CONTRACT

Assists in maximizing the corporate clients visibility throughout its markets and to internal audiences. Helps to enhance the positive image of the company in the communities it serves, and strengthens corporate and internal culture.

Primary focus is to:

- Develop and support publications and activities. Instrumental in tracking department finances and metric reporting requirements.
- Support strategic internal communications efforts, including building and maintaining relationships with key internal constituents.
- Researches, writes and edits a variety of documents for employee communications in a timely manner.
- Identify and write feature-style articles, develop podcasts and videos with speed, grammatical and content accuracy.
- Use the most effective and efficient internal communications processes and tools.
- Develop and deliver materials and training to improve communications-related skills throughout the organization.

Qualifications and Technical Competencies:

- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications or related field, plus at least six years professional writing experience or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- Familiarity with public relations, community relations, public affairs and internal communications principles
- Excellent organizational, editing, proofreading, research and writing skills
- Ability to distill complicated, technical messages into consumer-friendly language
- Experience writing in a variety of voices, including persuasive, informative and personal
- Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks and quickly produce results under tight deadlines
- Ability to maintain grace and good humor under pressure
- Familiarity with electronic and print media
- Deadline and detail oriented
- Aptitude for electronic media, including proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Must be flexible and able to meet sudden and unpredictable needs
- Photography and videography capabilities a plus

Essential Functions:

- Project manager for departmental planning and budgeting activities: monitors monthly budget/spending, evaluating spending trends, reallocating dollars within cost centers over the course of a spending year following guidance from department Director. Collaborates with department leadership to establish team budgets and plans for the annual budget development process.
- Serves as the key coordinator for a range of high-profile corporate publications. Writes a variety of documents, including financial and planning materials to reach both internal and external audiences
- Serves as a member of the Internal Communications team, and provides writing support for other Strategic Communications teams and business partners as needed. Edits documents and articles for both internal and external audiences.
- Researches information and trends in the health care industry and in effective communications practices.
- Updates department team rooms and department-owned databases and web sites. Manage topic-specific documents on shared common electronic drive.
- Collects and reports on department-level metrics and maintains department budget under guidance of Director.
- Participates on multi-state, cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization.

Other Job Responsibilities

- Department liaison in corporate performance management initiative update the departments scorecard and status of objective completion throughout the year to reflect the units progress on team and corporate work plans, based on input from team members and unit leadership.
- Establish and implement annual schedule of monthly department Learn at Lunch seminars to build skills, encourage team cohesiveness, and foster awareness and understanding of important programs developed by other departments. Develops and delivers training on communications-related topics.
- Maintain departments business continuity plan by documenting and updating staffs contact information, essential tasks and priorities, and equipment/software needs on a quarterly basis in a proprietary program employed for this purpose.
- Logistical support for executive communication efforts and other special projects (at the direction of supervisors), including company-wide employee meetings or occasional teleconferences with CEO or other senior leadership.
- Proposes and develops communications topics and vehicles to strengthen internal culture, serving on editorial boards for publications including employee web-based newsletter and web pages.
- Explores and employs "social media," as it relates to strategic communications strategies ability to develop a skill base in use of emerging social media tools a strong plus.
- Ability to maintain grace and good humor under pressure.
