I am currently recruiting for a Senior Category Manager on behalf of a council based in the South West. This is a contract role that will run for an initial 3 months although the chances of multiple extensions are very high.

As Senior Category Manager, you would be joining the council at an exciting time as they are launching a new Directorate in the 'Commercial Service'

This particular post will be more People Portfolio based which covers more people related council services such as Adults Social Care, Children and Young Peoples Services and Public Health from a Senior Category Manager perspective

As Senior Category Manager, you will be tasked with advising lead commissioners, providing commercial advise and expertise, understanding the marketplace, conducting reviews and analysing why money is being spent in certain areas and with certain suppliers.

A big aspect of this role will also be providing a mentoring service in order to transfer your skills and experience to more junior members of the new Commercial Service. You will also form a key part of the Commercial Service Leadership Team.

As Senior Category Manager, you would be required to come from a very strong commercial background and be aware of commercial regulations within the public sector or local government.

CIPS or MCIPS are preferable but not essential. It is more about your experience as a Category Manager.
