Background

Our central government client is currently recruiting for a Senior Back Office Support Technician. This contract will run until April 2014 and is based in Taunton. This post is within a Windows 7 Deployment Team which is part of a wider Desktop Project. The priority for the Project is driven by the necessity to maintain a secure, stable and supportable desktop capability in support of the business, particularly as the current desktop Operating System ceases to be supported in 2014. The first Stage of the project has completed and has captured Desktop requirements, and based on those requirements developed a High Level Design and Desktop Strategy that would support the business over the next 7 years.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
Wintel - Server, Storage, Messaging & Service/Data Recovery. Define and maintain the overall computer design/configuration models and ensure they meet the computer systems functional and performance requirements. Recommend and implement standards for configurations, tools and products. Provide support to the Front Office Support Technicians, Back Office Support Technicians and projects as required. Use management software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect system statistics, model performance, and create reports including proposals for improvement. Carry out research and development of technical products in accordance with project requirements. Provide technical options papers with risk analysis, costs and implementation plans.. Carry out complex configuration/installation and reconfiguration of hardware and software for projects as required. Carry out operational acceptance testing of new and/or changed systems in relation to server support. Monitor system performance and robustness during user acceptance testing.

Outputs/Deliverables to be achieved
Contacts and communications Internal. End-users to resolve equipment/software/maintenance issues. End-users to identify needs for new or changing equipment/software/maintenance requirements. With the Service Desk while resolving infrastructure problems. With other staff on technical hardware/software configuration, server build issues, etc. With specialist IT contractor staff working within Information Services. External. With suppliers to resolve equipment/software/maintenance issues. With suppliers to identify needs for new or changing equipment/software/maintenance requirements. With third party maintenance providers/consultants/vendors on technical hardware/software configuration, service provision issues, etc. With external consultants and contractors for delivery of a product or service.

Skills/Experience Required

Essential.
In-depth knowledge of Windows O/S, Group policy, Microsoft Office, Exchange, SCCM, XenApp 6.5, Citrix Streaming Profiler and Packaging technologies. Extensive experience of designing/configuring Windows/VMware/Citrix solutions. Technical Authority in Infrastructure Design. Hardware and Virtualisation (specifically Wintel/Citrix). Windows 7. IE8. Active Directory and Group Policy. Office 2010 and Exchange 2010. Citrix implementation & support. Citrix Performance Tuning. Citrix infrastructure resiliency. Application delivery to Citrix. Citrix farm management. Vdisk management. Vmware ESXi 4.1 and 5/Xenserver

Formal Qualifications Required

Essential.
Senior level Citrix Certification preferred (CCIA, CCEA) equivalent experience will be considered Desirable. Microsoft Certified Professional qualified or equivalent. Microsoft trained/certified in Windows 7. ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management. Microsoft Certification in related Server and/or Network technologies (MCP)

Additional Comments
It is highly desirable that you hold current SC clearance however you must be eligible to go through this level of clearance.
