In this key role, you will be responsible for ensuring that new development and large enhancements align to the security policies and guidelines.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Provides support for the direction, guidance and definition of a distributed architecture to effectively support application development and implementation. Responsibilities include researching, analysing, designing, proposing and delivering solutions that are appropriate for the application and technology strategies. Provides supplementary support for Security architecture by reviewing and approving security strategy and designs for development projects.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

- 6+ years professional experience including implementation of large, complex applications on multiple technical platforms (eg, Wintel, AIX, OS/390)
- Bachelors or masters degree in computer science or comparable work experience required
- Must have experience in the architecture of distributed systems to be considered
- Working knowledge of Windows, UNIX (AIX), Networking, Servers, and desktop environments required
- Knowledge of different hardware configurations and technologies associated with distributed platforms required
- Knowledge and experience of multiple networking protocols and topology, and their implications on application development
- Knowledge of high availability solutions preferred
- Up-to-date on industry trends and technology evolution
- 3+ years of IT operational experience supporting robust E-commerce or on-line hosted applications in a 24X7 production environment
- Strong knowledge and experience (3+ years) with IBM/AIX Unix OS and hardware
- Must have practical experience with implementation of technical application environments
- Requires minimum daily guidance after initial introduction to the project
- Experience in determining deliverables and approaches for projects
- Proven client interaction meeting facilitation skills; ability to work with client and team members
- Ability to scope and estimate projects of small to medium size and complexity
- Ability to effectively present and communicate standards, best practices and deliverables
- Basic knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services industry
- Experience with Microsoft's .NET framework environment a plus
- Familiarity with multi-tiered, highly available applications in a hosted Data Center environment preferred

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Be accountable for analysing and designing the distributed architecture and related network to meet the technical and business requirements for new development and mission critical applications
- Act as technical consultant and architect for new development projects
- Advise on sizing, capacity planning, design of the configuration and related procedures for distributed environments with additional focus on security and related network connections
- Be responsible for designing appropriate IT practices across a distributed environment
- Work on project teams as a technical expert and deliver quality products according to project schedule
- Strong emphasis on collaboration, coordination, advocacy, and mentoring

A minimum of 6 years of experience in the industry is required including defining requirements, developing designs and project plans, and delivering results. Individuals must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization is critical.

*The individual can work remotely after 2-3 weeks initially on site.
