Security Administrator

The role of security administrator is to implement and maintain the organization's security policy. Using identified best practices and through regular review of logs and security monitoring the security administrator detects problems and drives remediation with the appropriate Ops, Eng or Network teams. In addition the security administrator coordinates system modifications to mature security posture, remediate security violations, and address zero-day vulnerabilities.

The security administrator should report security problems to users, system managers and SecOps so problems are tracked and corrected. Secure system management, however it is organized, includes training users, setting up accounts and passwords, protecting sensitive system files and resources, and auditing and analysing security-relevant events. Learning how systems are used and recognizing "normal" system activity are critical to secure management.

- Works closely with the Security and Privacy teams for reporting and other security related functions
- Performs vulnerability scans using customer supplied tools and applications
- Monitors security audit and intrusion detection system logs for system and network anomalies
- Enforces security directives, orders, standards, plans and procedures
- Implements, enforces and communicates security policies and/or plans for data, software applications, hardware and telecommunications
- Operates intrusion detection systems, enterprise anti-virus systems, security gateways, and software deployment tools as needed
- Will respond to and track IT related security incidents in the effort to help determine the scope and eradication efforts
- Respond to customer requests by providing information and data upon request on all security incidents
- May review or and/or validate modification or replacement of hardware or software components and any configuration change(s) that affects security

Essential Job Functions

- Audits computer systems to ensure that they are operating securely and that data is protected from both internal and external attack.
- Conducts security assessments to ensure adherence to customer specific security policy, procedures and industry standards.
- Monitors, evaluates, and maintains security systems according to industry best practices to safeguard internal information systems and databases.
- Assists with the review and definition of security requirements and reviews systems to determine if they are designed to comply with established standards.
- Investigates security violations and breaches; Prepares reports on intrusions as necessary.
- Reviews logs across the assigned area. Configures and deploys security devices across assigned area.
