DESCRIPTION

Responsible for providing data and process analysis and support for the management of  the organization's securities reference and market data assets. To ensure sustainable quality in the repositories and the downstream application, the candidate will work with the Data Management team and business stakeholders to conduct analysis, business and data workflows and write detailed data specifications on current and future systems. The candidate will conduct research and design of data solutions for key corporate projects to ensure that data requirements and solutions meet the growing business needs of the organization. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Carry out daily work within Investment Finance Data Management to identify and analyze data issues and problems and implement appropriate solutions while working on a project
- Provide global securities data expertise and data management leadership to achieve sustainable quality of information needed by the businesses to meet their objectives
- Develop requirements and detailed specifications for data and processes to achieve accuracy of reference and market data within trading, compliance, performance, risk and portfolio management systems
- Develop and report the internal and external data quality objectives as well as establishing service level agreements to meet the data quality goals and objectives
- Develop and maintain a network of relationships with the information customers within the organization in the areas of trading, risk management, compliance, clearing and settlement to manage ongoing processes, controls, and operational service levels
- Analyze application and user requirements for data, identify data sources to meet requirements, and write data specifications for Information Technology
- Learn vendor data rights and communicate obligations to our users to ensure we remain compliant with all data vendor contracts
- Develop and implement data management processes and controls to continually monitor data quality
- Develop competency to use data quality (Oracle Enterprise Data Quality tool) to build business rules tracking and reporting to monitor data quality
- Identify root cause of data problems and specify requirements for Information Technology to Remedy the problem or implement process improvement initiatives
- Design and implement audits to quantify data quality and to verify usability of data for applications
- Work with appropriate business unit leaders to identify opportunities to standardize, streamline and automate incoming data files and flow of data
- Understand the flow and transformations of securities data from suppliers through securities data repositories, and to end user applications for trading, risk, compliance and Back Office
- Create test plans to certify the data quality for data repository upgrades, new data feeds, and application integrations
- Conduct and process improvement and reengineering project initiatives for data collection, capture, entry and distribution
- Document policies, procedures and work processes
- Conducts user training
- Build and maintain metadata
- Understand the information technology concepts and ETL processes
- Keep abreast of industry best practices, regulatory environment, and emerging tools and standards
- Participate in large system implementations and other projects

Some experience in data operations, data management, securities database technology, analytical applications, data vendor products and services within an established financial services or investment fund management institution in order to effectively interact with management within the organization, vendors and end users.

Intermediate data gathering, interviewing and problem solving experience in order to effectively conduct system and process analysis and from these findings, design data solutions.

Intermediate knowledge of testing strategies, test plans, execution is essential in order to implement potential solutions.

Basic understanding of the representation of business terms in legal agreements in order to represent the business to legal in contract negotiations, and to ensure compliance with vendor contracts.

Intermediate knowledge of Information Technology capabilities and constraints

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential to this role in order to effectively implement and project initiatives, conduct user training and document all policies and work processes.

Identify opportunities and develop solutions where there may be no precedent internally and little externally. Due to the analytical nature of activities, a moderate level of constructive thought will be required.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The position is responsible for analysing the processes that support the accuracy and integrity of required data within key systems.

The position carries responsibility to establish procedures and controls for the oversight, execution and delivery of all required securities reference and market data, as consumed by various systems, reports and investment professionals. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- 5+ years in Capital Markets or Fund Company
- Product knowledge in any (or most of) the following: Bloomberg, Derivative Products, bonds, equities, infrastructure, private capital
- Experience implementing any of the following: Charles River, SimCorp, Master Data Management, Cadi, MarkitEDM
- University degree or equivalent experience (Business/Finance, Financial Mathematics, Accounting or Computer Science)
- Canadian Securities Course - CSC
- 3 to 5 years applicable experience progressive business analysis experience supporting projects or large business initiatives
- 3 to 5 years in systems analysis and design
- Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio, SQL skills along with solid understanding of database structures
- General understanding of securities reference and market data
- Ability to manage change and challenge existing working patterns and processes
- Experience in developing successful and responsive relationships with a wide number of groups
- Ability to communicate effectively with the business and Information Technology
- Utilizes a structured approach to working methods including proven experience in creating and adopting controls and day to day procedures
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Good organization, planning and time management skills
- Understanding of system development life cycle
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Experience with the following technologies is required:

- PL/SQL

Experience with the following applications is an asset:

- Bloomberg, Market EDM (Cadis), Oracle EDQ (Datanomic), SimCorp, Findur, Charles River, SunGard Adaptiv, TopQuadrant, SharePoint, IBM Connections, Lotus Notes
