BACKGROUND

The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) provides world class leading edge compute and data storage infrastructure to support the work of world class science both within STFC, the UK and internationally. A scientific computing manager is required to support the scientific computing systems and services as well as assisting scientists in their use.

The Research Infrastructures (RI) group (within SCD) currently has a vacancy for a highly motivated individual to join a team specialising in delivering scientific computing services for STFC Facilities and external collaborators.

ABOUT YOU

Candidates will be educated to degree level in a science discipline or have relevant work experience. Have expertise to perform advanced system Administration of UNIX/Linux Systems.

THE ROLE

Your main role will be to install, maintain and support both the High Performance Computing (HPC) and general purpose scientific computing resources managed by the RI group. These consist of multiple HPC compute clusters (3000 cores) and multi-Petabyte data storage systems. Providing support for services that underpin both the HPC resources and other services run by the SCD department.
