SC Cleared Spectral Imaging Scientist - 12 Months Contract- Wiltshire

We are currently seeking SC Cleared SPECTRAL IMAGING SCIENTIST who will work on a range of spectral research projects in support of internal Programme and Delivery Directorate customers in the areas of C4ISR and Counter Terrorism, as well as supporting other government department initiatives such as the cross-government strategy for countering terrorism, CONTEST. The role will involve analysis of remote sensing data to address various questions of interest to the research programme. It may also involve laboratory measurements of the optical reflectance/absorption Spectra of materials.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

- The role requires experience of working with ENVI software.
- Experience using the IDL programming language would be an advantage.
- Experience working with remote sensing data.
- Experience working with hyper spectral imagery would be an advantage.

(Advantageous):

- Knowledge of typical processing chains for hyper spectral imagery.
- Understanding of "whitened-space" target detection algorithms.
- Knowledge of atmospheric effects on optical (especially hyper spectral) sensors.
- Knowledge of techniques used to perform "atmospheric compensation" of hyper spectral imagery.
- Ability to operate field spectrometers and carry out various kinds of spectral reflectance measurements.
- Understanding of the physical mechanisms underlying reflection of light and how these affect reflectance Spectra.
- Proven ability to deliver reliably whilst working under minimal supervision.
- The candidate must have good communication skills (through written reports,presentation style and verbal communication).

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline (remote sensing, physical geography, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, etc.), or equivalent experience.
