By working as a Safety Engineer, you'll help to solve complex engineering challenges and put in place design and delivery solutions to create a world class rail infrastructure for the twenty-first century.
By joining us in Reading, you'll be part of a team taking a major project from design to completion, working on a range of projects from viaducts, new bridges and bridge reconstructions to major station renewals. Your role is to support the provision of system safety engineering skills, services and advice across nominated areas of the Crossrail Programme.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide systems engineering skills, services and advice to nominated functional, project teams, contractors and suppliers as required.
2. Manage the development, implementation and maintenance of the Safety Verification & CSM processes across all the projects that form the Crossrail Surface Works.
3. Monitor and maintain Project Safety Case deliverables for projects according to H&SMS and Programme procedures.
4. Assist with the review of designs for proposed items of work including cross-discipline checks.
5. Lead the production and maintenance of safety remits, project safety strategies, engineering hazard logs and safety risk assessments through working in close liaison with the Engineering Safety Case Manager, Project Managers, Designated Project Engineers and Design Consultants.
6. Manage the interfaces with Programme level hazard log and external parties according to the project hazard management procedure

Essential
* Substantial railway experience in systems safety engineering design, operations and maintenance
* An engineering degree or equivalent industry recognised training qualification
* Ability to communicate effectively in a range of verbal and written methodologies
* An understanding of risk assessment techniques
* Relevant experience in achieving the requirements of SRPs, PRGs, NoBo, DeBo and AssBo and ISAs.
* Experience of Safety approvals process under ROGS and RIR regulations.
* Able to simplify complex technical issues and communicate to Approval bodies.
* Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management ("Yellow Book").

Desirable
* Experience in running risk assessment workshops
* Experience in developing safety cases
* Strong database skills

* Strong management skills
