THE CLIENT: WORLD LEADER IN DEFENCE MARKETS

THE JOB:

The project-based role will be to provide all elements of Safety and Environmental Management in support of Combat Systems contracts.

THE ROLE WILL ENTAIL:

. Safety requirements capture leading to safety case development, production and maintenance.
. Prepare, maintain and manage the implementation of Project Safety and Environmental Management Plans to ensure that Product Safety can be managed in a cost effective manner.
. Perform Environmental Impact Assessments to ensure that all environmental impacts are identified and nevaluated.
. Perform Hazard Identification and analysis using standard Company processes.
. Detailed design safety analysis using a range of techniques and supporting tools, in particular Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
. Provide advice and guidance to project teams on product safety, product environmental, COSHH and other occupational safety issues, ensuring that safety and environmental considerations are an integral part of the design process and take cognisance of the whole product life cycle.
. Product safety approval of top-level (as defined by the Safety Management Plan) documents and deliverables.
. Ensure that the standards of Product Safety and Product Environmental defined by statutory and Customer requirements are observed in the design of the product(s) produced by, or resulting from, projects.
. Undertaking and evaluating Health & Safety Risk Assessments.
. Supporting the Quality function with the approval, performance monitoring and audit of key Suppliers as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).

THE ROLE WILL POTENTIALLY ALSO REQUIRE THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE TO INTERFACE WITH THE CUSTOMER AND MAJOR SUB-CONTRACTORS BOTH AT FRIMLEY AND OFF-SITE AND PROVIDE ACCURATE REPORTS OF THEIR WORK.

EXPERIENCE & CAPABILITIES:

. Qualification in an Engineering discipline, preferably to degree level.
. 3-4 years experience in a general product safety environment.
. Good report writing skills including word processing and general computer skills.
. Experience in the use of Access databases and Excel Spreadsheets.
. Ability to programme manage safety work packages.
. Understanding of Environmental legislation.
. Knowledge of UK MOD Safety Standards and Legislation.
. Good communications skills.
. SHIP SAFETY MANAGEMENT OFFICE (SSMO) CERTIFICATE AND 1-2 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN SHIP SAFETY MANAGEMENT Systems would be advantageous.
. Experience with Environmental Management would be advantageous.
