Ruby on Rails Software Engineer

Our client is a well-funded and well-connected startup located in downtown Seattle creating a marketplace for insurance and employee benefits. This small, high-skilled development team is at the center of changing an industry.

Looking for hands-on experience with:

- Developing customer facing web applications with the Rails framework and Ruby language
- Use of TDD and test frameworks such as RSpec
- Full application stack from Front End CSS and JavaScript to database persistence layer
- Design of web service interfaces, and consumption of third-party APIs
- Use of JavaScript and CSS frameworks such as SASS/LESS, Twitter Bootstrap and KnockoutJS
- Operations: Deploying, running, monitoring, and scaling web applications

We'd also like to see:

- Evidence that you're a self-starter (solo/GitHub-based projects or OSS contributions)
- Technical leadership in an Agile environment and able to onboard engineers who may not have had previous experience working with Agile processes or the Ruby/Rails stack
- 2+ years of experience with Ruby and/or other languages (more is better)
- BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent

- Ability to lead large multi-discipline teams (5+) for complex work efforts which includes estimating, coordinating, tracking progress, inspiring others to complete tasks on time, assisting with resolving issues and creating status reports
- Creates a climate where people want to do their best
- Ability to motivate and empower others on work teams
- Ability to mentor and coach other team members in technical matters

- Determines and/or directs system design and prepares work estimates for development or changes for multiple work efforts.
- Takes initiative and seeks out work.
- Prepares and/or directs the creation of program, system, operational and User documentation.
- Performs and/or directs testing and documents the results.
- Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards in place within IT as well as all corporate policies, procedures and standards. Seeks to improve policies and procedures.
