Road Safety Education Officer

Capita's Property and infrastructures venture partnership with the London Borough of Barnet to deliver the council's Development and Regulatory Services (DRS) has begun. The joint venture will provide building control, land charges, planning (development management), strategic planning and regeneration, highways services, environmental health, trading standards and licensing and cemetery and crematorium services to the borough.

The Road Safety Officer will assist in ensuring the Council's aim to reduce the number of road casualties (KSI's - Killed and Seriously Injured) is furthered through the preparation and implementation of an education, training and publicity programme in accordance with the Local Implementation Plan , National and Mayoral targets.

The successful candidate will assist in the effective and efficient promotion, design and execution of projects, initiatives, schemes, investigations and analysis relating to road accident prevention, education, training and publicity to the Service, other service areas within Re and Barnet Council and outside bodies as required and ensuring these are regularly reviewed and updated.

The successful Road Safety Officer will formulate, monitor and control estimates and review budgets to achieve Best Value. To supervise and administer contracts relating to road safety and cycle training and to control any resources allocated ensuring compliance with financial regulations, standing orders and relevant legislation.

You will have previous exposure as a Road Safety Officer and dealt with schools and other educational establishments.

You will assist in the production of bids to secure funding for Road Safety related activities.

You will prepare letters, technical reports, committee reports and other documents as may be required i.e. one off projects, arranging displays, exhibitions, distribution, presentation work etc.

The successful candidate will have a knowledge of current legislation, policy and strategies relating to Road Safety

Your role will include managing the School Crossing Patrol sites and School Crossing Patrol Officers within Barnet including recruitment, interviewing, training and the day to day management of the sites and Officers.

The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers at all levels.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and able to explain facts and express views and opinions with clarity and conviction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle questions, objections and challenges
