RESIDENTIAL WORKER

THE MAPLES, HARLOW

FULL TIME, FIXED TERM CONTRACT - 3 MONTHS

SALARY £16,830 - £21,519

The Role
Under the guidance of the shift leader in accordance with the policies and strategies support the day to day care and development, safety and management of the children and young people in the home. Support the provision of a caring, nurturing, safe, reflective and empowering environment to enable the children and young people to reach their full potential. Support the learning process and creation of a learning environment.

To make use of personal skills, life experiences and interests to inspire the children and young people and work closely with them to support their life journey to identify their own skills, strengths and interests and help them to develop these. Develop positive authentic relationships with peers and children and young people to provide a good adult role model. Develop understanding, skills, knowledge and make use of this to positively contribute to the homely environment.

To be an active team member, working towards achieving the implementation of policies and practice standards against national standards, outcomes specification, legislation and local requirements.

JOB PURPOSE
To contribute to a culture that enables children and young people to flourish, grow, develop and experience nurturing and empowering care, becoming actively involved in the home and the local community.

To ensure that placement agreements and reviews for children inform the outcomes on an individual basis

To complete written documents as directed by the line manager, shift leader or Homes Manager which fully records details of activities and provides evidence of work undertaken and the progress of the child or young person towards their outcome targets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (for further details please download the full job profile)

- A basic understanding of child development and the ability to promote people's equality, diversity and rights.
- Awareness and recognition of the need to protect children, and a willingness to learn how best to do this, within a children's home.
- Good communication skills; written, verbal and IT.
- Experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity; or an ability to demonstrate life experiences which provide an appropriate background for the role.
- Experience of team working and some insight into some of the pressures associated with it.
- NVQ Level 3 Caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent, or higher), or ability to complete within 18 months of appointment.
- Where Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy are not evidenced, a willingness to achieve these awards, prior to undertaking the L3 Diploma within 6 months of appointment.
- Personal resilience, energy and commitment to providing a child centred quality service.
- A full driving license and access to a vehicle fit for work purposes or access to a driver and work vehicle for travel within the job across the county and on occasions more widely
