Resettlement Coordinator

Working in conjunction with Serco Home Affairs, HMP Dovegate care for over 1060 male adult prisoners over the age of 21 all serving a range of sentences including trial, remand, awaiting sentence and convicted men serving over four years to life.

An opportunity has arisen for a Resettlement Officer to be based at HMP Dovegate. The role of the Resettlement Coordinator is to work with, and support prisoners in relation to resettlement issues in line with the 7 Pathways, that will enable them to plan and prepare for a successful return and reintegration back into the community by maximising their opportunities whilst in custody. This is a 12 months Fixed Term Contract working 30 hours per week.

Duties to Include

Liaise with Employment Services and Benefits Agency to assist prisoners with monetary issues whilst in custody and on release

Provide guidance on career related issues and where appropriate make appointments for prisoners on release

Liaise and initiate effective working partnerships with external organisations that are able to assist prisoners with their resettlement aspirations both pre and post release

Access employment, education and training opportunities for prisoners returning to their local communities

Participate in the delivery of resettlement awareness training, as part of the staff ITC and non-custodial training schedule

Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge of the difficulties facing prisoners leaving custody, and the type of resettlement support offered in the community

Previous experience of working within a criminal justice setting, i.e. Probation Service, Youth Offending Service, HMP Prisons

Undertaken previous studies/qualifications relating to offending behaviour or social and welfare needs

Previous experience of working with offenders both in custody and/or in the community - desirable

Good understanding of the needs of offenders and the reducing reoffending pathways - desirable
