Research Technology Engineering

This team is responsible for the infrastructure part of the client's mission to conduct basic and applied research in computer science and software engineering. They are looking for a Software Development Engineer to help design, engineer, build and deploy IT class solutions needed for Research.

We're looking for an experienced, self-motivated and flexible Software Developer to help design, prototype and build the new web sites, desktop video production tools, and automation processes.

REQUIREMENTS

General:

- College degree with 4+ years of development experience required
- Demonstrated experience developing websites and services, exceptional collaboration skills
- Ability to maintain forward momentum in a sometimes chaotic startup atmosphere
- Strong general development skills
- Strong working knowledge of C# and.NET programming at least through.NET 4.0
- Strong experience working with Microsoft Development Tools, including Visual Studio 2010 or higher
- Experience designing and developing applications
- Strong knowledge of Windows Security, including Active Directory
- Strong troubleshooting and analytic skills
- Good communication skills

Presentation Tier:

- Strong knowledge of web presentation technologies, especially JavaScript, JSON, jQuery, AJAX, CSS, and HTML
- Knowledge of HTML5 and DOM
- Strong knowledge of ASP.NET
- Experience developing web applications with MVC
- Demonstrable interface design and development skills

Storage Tier:

- Strong knowledge of database design principles
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL
- Strong knowledge of ADO.NET
- Experience with Entity Framework

Business Tier:

- Strong knowledge of middle tier technologies, such as IIS, ASP.NET, RESTful design principals, WCF
- Experience troubleshooting and support business tier applications
- Experience developing windows services

Streaming

- Strong familiarity with media encoding applications, including Expression Encoder and Windows Media Encoder
- Strong understanding of streaming media concepts, such as bitrates, codecs, etc.
- Understanding of IIS Smooth Streaming and Windows Media Server
- Experience implementing video playback in HTML5

Nice to have:

- Demonstrable aesthetic design and development skills
- SQL server replication and full-texting indexing expertise
- Server management skills, especially Windows, IIS, SQL, Windows Media Server
- Experience designing a UI in Silverlight
- Desktop application development experience (WinForms or WPF)
- Windows installer expertise (InstallShield or WiX)

Length of assignment: Possible ongoing, 6 months initial.
