Interim Research Finance Manager

London

Contract

Purpose:
To manage the team of Research Finance Officers that undertake the financial administration of research and consultancy projects and funds and to act as the source of expertise on the financial aspects of research and enterprise activities.

The post holder will work as an Interim Manager within the Finance Department and be expected to deliver a high quality service and exhibit the highest standards of professional conduct and performance to tight deadlines. The Finance Department is part of Corporate Services which is IIP accredited and has endorsed a charter which identifies standards of conduct that all staff in Corporate Services will observe.
The post holder will be expected to proactively identify and recommend systems and process enhancements in order to facilitate the efficient and expedient monitoring and reporting of all research projects.

The Finance department is undertaking radical process changes to deliver best practice in all areas of responsibility. Each member of the department is expected to deliver services in an efficient and effective manner using technology and innovative processes.

Essential
Relevant first degree or practical experience that demonstrates relevant levels of knowledge and skill

Fully qualified with a CCAB professional accountancy body (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).

Significant experience and knowledge of all accounting (management and project) and audit requirements in relation to the management of research and consultancy activity within a HE setting.

Experience of working in a greater than 250 concurrent research/complex project environment and have direct involvement in the financial management of large projects.

Experience of designing and implementing new and improved procedures and practices in a relevant area with emphasis on a lean methodology.

Excellent IT skills and experience including modern integrated financial systems and advanced skills in the use of spreadsheets and databases.

Experience of managing a team of professional finance staff.

Demonstrable experience of building effective working relationships with other professionals outside finance, with high quality influencing.
