Research Engineer - Offshore Wind

We have an exciting research focused role working in the EDF Energy R&D UK Centre in the Offshore Wind field. The job holder will play a key role in assessing offshore wind farm costs and evaluating promising opportunities for OW costs reduction.

About the role

The R&D UK Centre has been established in January 2010 to support the Business activities, create value today and prepare for the future. Due to the dynamic offshore wind business in the UK, the R&D UK Centre leads the R&D Off-shore Wind project on behalf of the EDF Group.

The role holder will lead the costs activity performing high quality studies and identifying opportunities for costs reduction (innovations and new technologies). You will have the responsibility to develop an internal cost modelling tool to rank different projects and to assess accurately the costs of a specific offshore wind farm and the associated energy production. Working with the international team you will characterise the interaction of OW energy with the electrical system looking at intermittency costs assessment and contribution to the system flexibility, among other things.

By establishing strong interactions with internal stakeholders and sponsors of the project within EDF Group you will have the opportunity to develop some excellent technical and market connections across EDF Energy and EDF globally. More specifically you will liaise directly with the energy management team in the UK and EDF R future for the combined business and its employees.
