Research Engineer - Mechanical Modelling

We have an exciting research focused role working in the EDF Energy R&D UK Centre in the Nuclear field. The job holder will play a key role in developing the activity on mechanical modelling and especially on Graphite core of Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor at the forefront of applied research.

About the role

The R&D UK Centre has been established in January 2010 to support the Business activities, create value today and prepare for the future. In 2011 The MaSC was created by EDF and theUniversityofManchestercreated the Modelling and Simulation Centre (MaSC) in order to reinforce the cooperation on mechanical modelling applied to the energy domain.

The role holder will be leading the activities on graphite core modelling, while liaising directly with the modelling and simulation coordinator. You will have the opportunity to develop a modelling tool to simulate automatically crack propagation in graphite bricks using state of the art methods. You will follow the work performed on the Graphite core behaviour statistical analysis and ensuring the knowledge transfer between the academic partner (MaSC) and EDF Energy engineers. As part of your role you will communicate the results in publications and/or presentations externally. You will propose new developments and new studies.

You will have the opportunity to develop direct working experience with the R&D UK Centre team, EDF Energy, EDF R&D inFranceand academic and industrial partners in theUK.
