Salary up to £23,000 pa

The Animal Health Trust is a leading veterinary research institute and registered Charity with the prime purpose of promoting the cause of animal welfare through veterinary research, together with advanced clinical and educational commitment. It is internationally recognised as a centre of scientific excellence for veterinary research. Located on a beautiful green site location just four miles from Newmarket, our state of the art laboratories offer a challenging and rewarding environment in which to work.

We are currently seeking a Research Assistant to join a newly established research programme working with Dr. Neil Bryant in the Department of Infectious Diseases. This is a two-year post funded by the Horserace Betting Levy Board investigating factors involved in Equine Herpesvirus type 1 pathogenesis, modelling cell-to-cell interactions _in vitro _using primary cells.

Duties will include providing scientific support in conducting and analysing experiments, writing high quality research papers and presenting data internally and at external conferences. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with previous experience in handling mammalian viruses, molecular biology including quantitative RT-PCR or tissue culture.

The successful applicant would ideally have a degree or equivalent experience in the biological sciences, possess excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized and be able to work well as part of a team.
