Research and Development Chemist Job

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIAN needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in Wilmington, DE.

THE BIG PICTURE:

With guidance from supervision and within established procedures, conducts routine research laboratory activities, information/data management activities or operates small scale production equipment in support of research and development. Identifies and suggests improvements in methods, plans projects of limited duration and scope, troubleshoots when erroneous or unexpected results occur. Responsible for producing research experimental results, or information/data management results, or assembling and configuring of small scale production equipment and control systems in a timely fashion utilizing a variety of techniques, effectively documenting findings and communicating results.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Maintain a safe and orderly laboratory, including the use of highly toxic materials.
- Conduct experiments safely and accurately with minimal supervision.
- Development of analytical methods for process support working with analytical professionals using different types of techniques.
- Analysis of liquids and solids by standard FTIR techniques.
- Analysis of liquids in situ by FTIR with novel equipment
- Development of process improvements through the use of separations techniques such as distillation, adsorption, ion exchange, filtration, crystallization, etc.
- Conceptualizing (with assistance) of various lab-scale processes or experiments, ordering, assembling, starting up, operating, and maintaining these processes.
- Collecting, organizing, interpreting, and reporting data collected (with assistance as needed).
- Keeping a detailed electronic lab notebook.
- Preparing samples for analysis by others and managing submittals and information as received.
- Setting up and maintaining equipment in the lab.
- Preparation of various simple reports and inventories related to laboratory management.

What You Need to Bring to the Table:
- B.A./B.S. in Chemistry or the equivalent in experience.
- Strong background in Chemistry, preferably including air-free handling techniques.
- Highly motivated to learn new techniques such as FTIR, colorimetry, distillation, adsorption, etc.
- Good computer skills in Word, Excel, and willingness to learn new software.
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety practices for handling of chemicals, especially highly toxic materials.
- Good written and oral communication skills for presentation of scientific data.
- Good record-keeping skills consistent with standard laboratory practices and protection of IP.
- Flexibility and demonstrated ability to prioritize work in a multi-tasking environment.
- The ability to do various basic math calculations to convert lab results into meaningful data
- Willingness to change priorities quickly

- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability and willingness to contact strangers by phone, email, and in person to request assistance or services as needed
