RESPONSIBILITIES

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publication.

Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.

Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.

May document engineering processes and specifications.

Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.

Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.

Researches, outlines and writes documentation that is technically accurate and conforms to the company's writing style.

Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.

Keeps up-to-date with new writing methods, processes and tools.

Makes necessary revisions in existing documentation, takes screen shots and works with graphics and production on presenting information graphically.

Researches and develops an understanding of the marketing requirements for the features being documented, including target audience and competitive documentation issues.

Works with product development staff to ensure that content accurately defines product specifications and operational procedures.

Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.

Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate section.

Normally receives general instruction on routine work, detailed instruction on new assignments.

Develops interpersonal and team skills.

REQUIREMENTS

The ability to work with technical resources to create clear and usable product documentation for end users.

Broad writing skills for the production of all types of technical documents, including online help and printed documentation.

The ability to work under tight schedules while providing accurate and precise deliverables.

A technical background in software development and the ability to quickly learn new technology.

Effective time management skills, which includes the ability to schedule and meet deadlines; anticipate dependencies; communicate issues; and know when to escalate efforts.

Must be a self-starter who works equally well independently and in a team environment.

Preferred experience with web Application Server technologies.

Preferred experience writing documentation for both UNIX and Windows environments.

Preferred Bachelor degree in Technical Writing, Computer Programming, English, or similar emphasis.

Excellent written, verbal, and technical communication skills.

May work on a project team as a participant or responsible for portion of work or project. Requires 3-5 years of related work experience, or some college or technical coursework.

Also requires good interpersonal and professional skills.
