ELEMENT DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Release & Configuration Engineer

PURPOSE OF JOB:

The Release & Configuration Engineer will manage the release and configuration requirements for the team. They will take responsibility for the management of software configurations for all controlled environments. They will form a key part of the team through the life of the projects life cycle from initial concept design through to handover and completion.

IT department for development networking/software/hardware requirements

DIRECT REPORTS:
None.

TOTAL NUMBER IN TEAM:
6 - 10 typical in project team
20 in high level software team.

PEERS: High Level Software Team members

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*To ensure your own safety and the safety of others at all times.
*To proactively report unsafe conditions, unsafe acts and near misses and to become part of the extra ordinary safety culture and help promote the "Home Safe everyday campaign."
*Ensure the Release processes are adhered to and escalate breaches accordingly
*Ensure all applicable environments are correctly managed and controlled
*Ensure all Release records are maintained

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION
*Provide Release documentation for all software projects
*Manage the timing and content of all software builds
*Manage HotFix and RCB processes
*Follow departmental and client quality processes.

KEY ACTIVITIES:
*Validate and then communicate proposed HotFixes to the relevant stakeholders and gain approval
*Coordinate and run RCB meetings ensuring all relevant CRFs are correctly completed
*Work with the Lead Engineers and the project teams to ensure quality is maintained
*Produce Release Notes for builds and deployments as required
*Validate all CRFs against CMDB (VSS)
*Provide guidance and support to developers wanting to release software
*Suggested improvements to the Release process

CORE COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications.
*Minimum of a degree in an engineering or computer science related discipline.
Experience.
*At least 3 years' experience in a Release & Configuration Role.
*Working in environments with mission critical high availability systems
*Working with the following technologies:
*Unified Modeling Language (UML) toolset
*Agile, Waterfall and V model life cycles
*Experience of working in an ISO 9001/TickIT+ environment.
*Use of the MS Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access.)
Personal Attributes.
*Excellent Communication skills, both written and oral.
*Good personal planning, organisational and analytical skills.
*The ability to operate whilst under time pressure and demanding constraints.
*Provide support to other team members and be respectful of others and their opinions.

ELEMENT DESCRIPTION
PROFICIENT COMPETENCIES:
* Experience of performing similar roles in airports/logistics or materials handling.
* A good understanding of the airport baggage handling system process/operational requirements or similar logistical processes.
* Use of JIRA, Visual Source Safe
* ITIL
* Experience of working with TFS or migrating businesses to TFS.
