Registered Nurse in Mental Health Required

The primary purpose of the role is

- To provide acute mental health interventions for clients in crisis and
- To provide mental health assessments, treatment and case management for the clients and support for their families.

Responsibilities:

- To assess cases as referred and to participate in the case management of young people experiencing psychosis, using approved tools
- To develop and formulate a case management plan which promotes optimal outcomes.
- To respect the individuality of each client, maintain a positive and encouraging attitude to clients and ensure their dignity and rights are safeguarded.
- To undertake recognised assessments appropriate to the client group.
- To be involved in the planning and maintenance of therapeutic individual and group interventions for an allocated case load.
- To provide individual counselling as appropriate.
- To carry out home visits as indicated and use the Home Visit Risk Assessment Checklist
- To ensure that clients and their carers receive education on the use of the medication, therapies and treatments prescribed.
- To inform clients of health issues, services and their rights and responsibilities.
- Develop and follow through with individual rehabilitation and recovery pathways for and in collaboration with clients.

Nursing Specific

- Comply with the Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the Division of Nursing and the Mental Health Service
- Function in accordance with the legislation affecting nursing practice in mental health
- Act to rectify unsafe nursing practice and unprofessional conduct
- Actively participate in and promote nursing research as appropriate
- Promote the profession of nursing with allied health professionals within the hospital and the community
- Attend regularly clinical supervision sessions as provided to ensure safe clinical practice and assist in maintaining optimum mental health of individual nursing staff members
- Undertake supervision and guidance of students on clinical placement
- Meet the professional standards as identified in the national mental health standards
- Meet standards as identified by Mental Health Outcomes and Assessment
