Rail Traffic Management Systems Engineer - Wales

Join Thales as a Rail Traffic Management Systems Engineer and you will be our onsite contact for our client, Network Rail, during a large, complex rail signalling operating centre build and implementation project in Cardiff. This is a fixed term position for one year and will provide a critical role in ensuring that Network Rail staff are supported during the operating centres final build stage and the first months of operation. Working on a roster you will assist Network Rail staff in the identification and maintenance of issues impacting the running of the live system.

Key responsibilities

Identify support and maintenance delivery issues
Provides ongoing advice and guidance to Network Rail staff, this could be in providing formal training or one on one coaching
Identify of configuration and operational use issues
Identify of potential improvement opportunities (process or technology)
Liaison with the Thales project team, client and subcontractors to resolve queries.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Experience in a similar role providing support either during an implementation or in the ongoing operation of a large data-centre environment
Familiar in working with virtualised environments (VMWare), both from a software and hardware perspective
Experience using Linux and Windows (client and server systems)
Experience using Oracle 11 and Oracle RAC
A high level of communication skills, you will have experience dealing with both technical and non technical people at all levels of the organisation
Fault finding experience such as analysing system logs, wireshark traces, loading cloned/ghosted images onto replacement hardware
Knowledge of redundancy - Servers, Switches and Routers, as well as backup and recovery processes and standards
Knowledge of mainline signalling systems would be advantageous.
