Job Description
The development of the Typhoon ESCAN Radar has presented a number of safety requirements (some historical, some new) that need to be satisfied in order to allow the product to be cleared to operate. In order to ensure that these requirements are satisfied and a compliant design is produced, the safety requirements need to satisfied early in the development life cycle. To achieve this, a Safety Specialist is required to support the RADAR EDR team in working with the RADAR Supplier to ensure that a compliant design is achieved.

The successful candidate will be required to perform tasks suitable to the internal level of this role.

The role will contain, but will not be limited to, the following;

A vacancy exists for a Safety Engineer in the E-Scan Radar Team on Eurofighter Typhoon. This is an opportunity for a self motivated individual to work in support of E-Scan RADAR development. The role sits within a team based at Warton working closely with the Radar Equipment Supplier (EuroRadar consortium), Eurofighter GmbH and other SDR engineering disciplines in delivering the E-Scan development programme to Time, Cost and without compromise to safety or quality.

The successful candidate will report to the E-Scan Group Leader on safety matters relating to the development of the E-Scan equipment. The successful applicant will work closely with other stakeholders to ensure that the supplier adheres to the agreed programme and milestones, ensuring that all safety dependencies are answered in a timely fashion, keeping all stakeholders informed of progress.

The candidate should have a knowledge of Radar systems and how they are operated, excellent communication skills, be proactive, understand the systems and safety engineering life cycle, and provide technically accurate and professional output.

1) To support the technical development of the E-Scan Radar throughout the engineering life cycle, from pre-contract work, through the development phase including PDRs and CDRs, Test Readiness Reviews, Qualification and Certification in support of the DDP.
2) To liaise closely with the E-Scan Radar Group Leader and E-Scan Radar Manager to co-ordinate the safety tasks incumbent on all stakeholders. Dealing with suppliers, customers and third party bodies on E-Scan Radar safety issues; ensuring the equipment is fit for purpose and cleared for flight.
3) Validating supplier safety data and documentation required to support the E-Scan Radar flight clearance.
4) Directing the supplier in making safety decisions to ensure the successful delivery of the equipment; covering both hardware and software development.
5) Creating and updating equipment requirements definitions, including specifications and interface control documentation for all safety items.
6) Ensuring that stakeholders at all levels are appropriately engaged and kept suitably informed on safety issues that concern them.
