R&D ENGINEER

My client a leading global visual digital media company are looking for a R&D Engineer to join their team. You will be someone who enjoys staying at the forefront of the technology world understanding what bleeding edge technologies (hadoop, Spark, AWS) out there and the potential they can hold.

As an R&D Engineer you will be part of a team that is responsible for system innovation with a focus on conceptualisation, feasibility and prototyping. You therefore will need to have a strong analytical background along with solid expertise in an array of technologies and a good understanding of architecture.

This is a hands-on role that will revolve around you using the most recent cutting edge technologies to create the next generation of features within their entertainment products. A main focus on the experience required for this role is around Big Data and Cloud technologies. You will therefore have a good knowledge of the hadoop ecosystem and emerging big data technologies ie Spark and extensive experience working with the cloud for example working in AWS.

You will conceptualise new features, study technologies, analyse feasibility options (technical, make-buy, supplier choices etc.), create proofs-of-concepts and ensure the timely and qualitative start of Integrated Product Development (IPD). The end goal is to ensure quick and seamless deliveries into product development.

This R&D Engineer role will provide you with exposure and extensive experience using a majority of the most recent technologies from a variety of Fields within IT. Using such a large array of tech in a commercial environment on a regular basis makes this a very rare and exciting opportunity. You will be at the forefront of innovation and will gather invaluable experience for you own self development.

Responsibilities

- Creating meaningful concepts at the forefront of Innovation
- Translate these concepts into feasible technical solutions
- Running feasibility studies and creating prototypes
- Analyse, Design, develop and then implement these new studies
- Be up-to-date with the most recent cutting edge technologies and research in your own time
- Looking at a concept from both an analytics, architectural and development POV
- Act as a technical lead when required
- Define ideas for new features and follow up with concepts that can be at the forefront of innovation.

Preferred Skills:

- You will have a masters in a relevant field
- Experience working with Java, Node.js, Python, Ruby.
- Expert knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL Databases (MongoDB, HBase, CouchDB).
- You will have a good knowledge of Big Data Technologies, Hadoop, Spark, SparkSQL, Storm etc.
- Experience working with any of the following cloud technologies AWS, OpenStack, VMWare etc.
- Expert knowledge of Front End technologies ie Javascript, HTML5, CSS3
- Experience with implement large server applications
- Embedded software experience using C/C++/Java
- Both iOS and Android Technology experience
- Have a strong analytical R&D mindset.
