Quality Engineer (Automotive) 6 Month Contract, Wales

Our client a world renowned tier 1 supplier of aluminium stampings are currently seeking an experienced Quality Engineer for a 6 month contract period based at their manufacturing facility in the Wales.

The Role
As part of a Project Engineering department this position is to manage the quality aspects of delivering new assembly and tooling processes in to the business. On an individual project this position will reporting to a Programme Manager assigned, supported by the functional managers within the Engineering department. The Quality engineer will provide quality support with the development of locator strategies for the components and assemblies, support the measurement strategy and will undertake all simulation work possible to ensure that the final product quality meets customer specification. This role will also produce the quality pack documentation required by the plants to run the new processes and produce the PSW packs to gain sign off for the product with the customer. This activity will take place within the full development life cycle of the product so can involve proposal work, simultaneous engineering, project management and launch.
The Project Engineer (Quality) will be involved in all advanced quality activities in line with customer requirements, APQP and TS16949. There will be particular emphasis on liaison with customers, suppliers and the plants. This role will require a flexibility of location for working at all stages of the project delivery, although the base will be Coventry.

Key Responsibilities
-Develop gauge instruction sheets for each panel to be supplied (press and assembly)
-Create RFQ documents for suppliers to quote
-Lead all engineering requirements / activities in the design, manufacture and buy off of checking fixtures and gauges with the suppliers.
-Track project timing plans with all suppliers.
-Liaise with home line plants to plan facility requirements, CMM capacities for confirmation and part programming and support commissioning and launch activities.
-Complete production data packs with control plans, FMEA and works instructions for the new products
-Report APQP status for the project and liaise with the project teams for elements that are outside of the quality engineers control
-Support Plant quality to ensure capability of product is produced and that dimensional and surface quality is achieved for Phase 1 PSW.
-Support with the production of the PSW phase warrant and ensure that any non-conformance is identified to the customer and extended tolerances agreed with product engineering
-Customer and Supplier liaison on all quality issues.

Characteristics and Requirements
-Qualified to HNC level or equivalent in Manufacturing / Mechanical Engineering.
-Experience in a Body in White engineering environment.
-Considerable plant or project quality experience
-Experience of panel checking fixtures, CMM capabilities, gauges used in BIW measurement
-Experienced in the creation of control plans, FMEAs and working instructions for manual and automated press and assembly operations
-Understanding of customer product quality expectations,
-Knowledge and experience of project management tools.
-Experience of APQP, SPC, FMEA, PPAP and control plans.
-Experience of working in a TS16949 environment preferable.
-Flexible with working location as periods of time will be spent at supplier and customer sites
-Driving Licence is essential.
-Familiar with various PC based software.

Our client offers a competitive hourly rate, working 37hrs per week Mon to Fri.
This role is for a 6 month contract based in Powys, Wales.
