QUALITY ANALYST MICROBIOLOGY (WATER QUALITY, TUES - SAT)

LOCATION: SHELTON, SHREWSBURY

SALARY: £17,000 + STANDBY ALLOWANCE + UP TO 10% ANNUAL COMPANY PERFORMANCE BONUS

We are currently recruiting for a QUALITY ANALYST MICROBIOLOGY to join their highly motivated, laboratory team at Shelton (Shrewsbury). You will be joining a small team where meticulous working, reliability, enthusiasm and the ability to work well under pressure are essential. The role requires you to participate in stand by and weekend working rotas. The working week for this role is Tuesday - Saturday.

The QUALITY ANALYST MICROBIOLOGY is responsible for:

- Ensuring compliance with the regulatory obligation to monitor drinking water quality and to react to quality failures, incidents and events.
- Undertake Regulatory microbiological analysis of drinking water and allied samples collected from water treatment works, service reservoirs and customer taps.
- Undertaking microbiological analysis of Sewage Sludge samples.
- Preparation of media and reagents using a variety of techniques.
- Production of LIMS worksheets, data entry along with reporting and interpretation of results
- Undertaking Algal and Zooplankton Analysis
- Ensuring own analysis complies with all standard microbiological methodology and is conducted in a timely manner.
- Reporting of regulatory results to off site duty team
- Ensuring all records and paperwork are completed correctly and related meet the required regulatory and company standards.

The QUALITY ANALYST MICROBIOLOGY will have experience of:

- Experience of working in a microbiology/food/environmental/hospital type laboratory
- Knowledge or experience of modern microbiological techniques
- A basic understanding of water treatment and quality
- Previous experience in microbiological water analysis and current analytical methods
- Sound working knowledge of laboratory quality systems, analytical quality control and LIMS systems
- Broad knowledge and understanding of microbiological aspects of drinking water quality, including data analysis and interpretation
- Knowledge of Health and Safety issues especially those relevant to working in microbiology laboratories
- Accurate with a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work well under pressure and unsupervised
- Good team skills
- Strong analytical skills

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum Qualification in microbiology or biological subject at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent,
- Full and valid driving licence is essential
- Biological degree preferred, ideally a degree in microbiology or an allied biological science subject.
