Job Description Q&RM Independence Assistant- 12 Month FTC - London Bridge (Level 1) - LON003ZF GB-England-London INDEPENDENCE ASSISTANT (LEVEL 1)

About the Independence Team

The Independence & Conflicts Team is led by the Independence Partner for UK and Ireland within the Quality & Risk Management Group ("Q&RM"). Q&RM reports directly to senior management and is situated in the London office.

Q&RM's role involves providing independence, legal, risk management, and regulatory advice to the firm. The main regulatory areas include Data Protection, Financial Services and anti Money Laundering.

There are currently 18 members of the Independence & Conflicts Team, within a total of about 50 in Q&RM.

The Team is responsible for ensuring the firm's compliance with the rules and regulations imposed either by external professional regulatory bodies or by Ernst

• Conducting a review of the information submitted to ensure this is complete. Where incomplete, it will be necessary to request additional detail. • Performing searches across the firm's internal databases to identify any potential regulatory restrictions. • Communicating directly with service line representatives to establish further information, where required. • Applying Independence rules to identify areas of concern which require further consideration. • Documenting searches completed and potential issues identified. This will be provided to department management for review, resolution of issues and sign off. • Answering subject matter queries and providing support and guidance to personnel across the business.

Whilst the role primarily focuses on new audit client independence checks, over time, the individual will have the opportunity to participate in other aspects of Independence, such as: • Assisting with the firm's Personal Independence Compliance Testing programme. • Conducting reviews of proposed business relationships with audit clients. Performing searches across the firm's internal databases, analysing potential issues identified and applying the business relationship rules. • Assisting with the roll out of the firm's annual Independence web-based learning training.

Other Team Activities Other areas which the Team deals with and which, over time, the Compliance Assistant may be involved include: • Assistance in external and internal regulatory reviews. • Production of accurate reports for internal / external sources, as required. • Assistance with the firm's Annual Independence Declaration exercise. • Maintenance of the firm's Global Independence System. • Administration of the firm's Global Monitoring System for reporting personal investment holdings. • Conducting Independence checks in respect of employee's requests to serve as directors, officers or trustees of external organisations. Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Essential

• Minimum 3 A levels • Capable of working using own initiative, with excellent communication and organisational skills. • The ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels. • Good analytical and interpretation skills • Adaptable and flexible with good team working skills and the ability to multi-task. • Ability to build strong working relationships with client departments and develop an excellent understanding of their business. • Ability to work to pre determined deadlines and meet objectives under pressure. • Service orientated. • Ability to deal professionally with confidential data. • Flexible and willing attitude. • A genuine and pro active interest in building knowledge. • IT literate with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable

• Graduate desirable, not critical. • Experience working in a professional services firm. • Evidence of an understanding of a commercial environment. • Experience using Lotus Notes.
