My client, a leading defence company are looking for a contract Safety Engineer to fill the following requirement:

Skills
- Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) preferably in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or related discipline).
- Experience and understanding in the planning, design, development and assessment of safety related systems, ideally with a sound knowledge of Air Traffic Control (ATC) Operational Systems and Procedures.
- Specialist knowledge of the principles and practices of safety assessment as applied to the design and development of safety related electrical, electronic and software based systems
- Detailed working knowledge of a Safety Management System
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of regulation and experience of the work of regulatory bodies eg HSE, CAA SARG.
- Experience of Systems Safety Engineering and Safety Case Construction (including the structuring of compelling safety arguments supported by evidence) encompassing electrical, electronic and software engineering, human factors, end-users, and building/environmental services (eg HVAC, power distribution).
- Specialist knowledge of the principal tools, techniques and methods of assurance for safety assessment. Including hazard identification and analysis, failure modes effects analysis, event tree analysis, quantitative and qualitative risk assessment, risk tolerability.
- The ability to work within a team to help, motivate and influence members of a Project Team to maximise their technical contribution.
- The ability to communicate difficult technical concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, at all levels up to Senior management level, both internal to and external to the organisation
- Up to date knowledge of national and international standards relating to safety management.
- Practical experience of managing assurance and evidence artefacts provided by third parties such as suppliers and Contractors.
