We are currently working in partnership with a leader in interior trim, our client suppliers some of the most prestigious OEMs in the UK.

Due to an exceptionally successful year thus far we are currently looking for talented Project Engineers to join the team on a contract basis.

Job Description Project Engineer - Contract

Purpose of Job

To provide engineering information, advice and guidance to other departments.

Determines and drives the most appropriate design and engineering solution for his/her commodities. Ensuring that all programme/APQP requirements are satisfied.

Liaises with the tooling specialists to ensure that the product design is tooling/plant robust for the vehicle life.

Duties

* To support project engineering with the introduction of new products.
* To provide engineering support for 8D problem solving activities.
* To lead and manage the design, manufacturing/outsourcing and validation of assembly tooling, jigs and fixtures.
* Customer/Supplier/Manufacturing plant liaison.
* Ensures that product designs consider:

- Design for assembly.
- Design for manufacture.
- Quality.
- Finite element analysis data.
- Dimensional variation analysis (In conjunction with DVA specialist).
- Monitor and Control Tool Timing.
- Ensures off Tool parts meet the required quality expectations.
- Responsible for the engineering elements of customer part approval (PPAP).
- Supervise all tool trials, tool sign off and shipping of tools

* Determine and apply the most appropriate and cost effective solutions.
* For product and process change projects that require supplier management (inc toolmakers) and/or customer liaison, the Product Engineer shall project manage these elements of the product/process change procedure.
* Support cost estimates in relation to product and process changes, and liaise with Operations to ensure all recoverable costs are specified in the quotation.

Qualifications

* Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering degree or HNC or Engineering apprenticeship, essential.

Skills and Experience

* Minimum of two years relevant manufacturing experience essential, preferably with a 1st or 2nd tier automotive supplier.
* Experience and knowledge of APQP approach and tools e.g. PPAP, PFMEA desirable.
* Experience of working with adhesive bonding systems desirable
* Experience of working with interior trim essential.
* Experience of paint or adhesive spraying desirable.
* Experience of working with the manufacture of leather wrapped products desirable
* Good literacy and numeracy skills - essential
* IT literate including proficiency in Microsoft applications including MS Powerpoint, MS Word and MS Excel essential.
* Working knowledge of job-related technical skills: GD&T, DFM, DFA, CAE/FEA, CAD, FMEA, DVP&R.
